Pollution
What are humans doing to the ocean? This subject is so
important in today’s society. Humans have been affecting our oceans for
decades, but it has gotten out of control not only in this last decade, but this has been happening for over eleven thousand years! The effects
on the oceans caused by humans have a huge impact on myself, living so close to
the ocean. Seeing the ocean life that is affected by our trash is life
changing. The animals within the ocean are helpless, and humans don’t seem to
recognize what we are really doing to our environment. There is evidence found
all over the oceans from the effect of human pollution. This includes ocean
pollution, destruction of ocean life, and more. Humans come with a lot of
waste, which is found too often across our waters.
We all know that we pollute the Earth, and have a huge part
to do with global warming. This is why I want to write a blog about this topic. Ocean pollution matters, and we are going to see a huge change in the environment and not be able to do anything about it at that point. I
understand we can’t help everything, and completely stop all polluting in the
world. However, we don’t take any steps forward to change it. Another question is what challenges do we have to face in order to change our
habits that affect the ocean?

Garbage is the most popular pollutant. According to
NRDC.org, eighty percent of human waste that is dumped to landfills makes its way
into the ocean. This doesn’t only include trash, but oil, septic tanks, motor
vehicles, and a whole lot more.
According to Conserve-Energy-Future.com, over one million
seabirds are killed by the pollution within the ocean every single year. Three
hundred thousand dolphins and other fish die every year from being wrapped up
in plastic and not being able to get untied. One hundred thousand sea mammals
are killed by just the pollution the water contains.
I find it interesting as well that the world is not taking actions to change how much trash gets into the oceans. I wonder if people were more aware of how much damage they are causing then maybe it would impact their decisions more. The only thing I would add to the post is to turn into the websites into links. It should you how in one of the “bloggers how to.” I think that would help strengthen your post because without the actual link, that means I am stuck to go through the whole website to find where you found that fact. I do !00% agree that something needs to be done about it. I am excited to hear what you find out!
ReplyDeleteCourtney,
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible post! It really is amazing how so many people don't realize how badly we are hurting our oceans and the life that is in it. I found so many things interesting about your post. I personally had no idea how many things we are dropping into the ocean to pollute it. I know plastic is one thing that hurts the marine life the most and it brakes my heart reading this. I also found it interesting when you gave the percentage of just how much waste we drop in to the ocean from different things. I think one thing you could add to make your paper over the top is following a story where our garbage has affected a sea creatures life. I actually am currently in Florida and just went to the aquarium where winter the dolphin lives. Her story is amazing and would fit right in with your topic. I can not stress enough just how important I think your topic is. I can't wait to see where your research takes you and where your blog goes. Thank you for sharing this incredible post!

Great post! I think the topic is really interesting and prevalent in todays society. I found it interesting and shocking that 80% of human waste dumped in landfills makes its way into the ocean. I had no clue that it was such a huge percentage and I think a lot of people aren’t fully aware of where their trash is going. I think you have a lot of great statistics on the effects of human waste on the ocean and I would maybe add a few things that we can do to counteract the effects and hopefully make a difference. Also turning your resource links into hyperlinks would be helpful so the reader could read more information as well! I agree that the effects on the oceans caused by humans is a major problem that people aren’t always taking responsibility for. I’m not sure if we can change the status of how the ocean currently is with the amount of pollution we have already created and I’m really interested to see what your research comes up with.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post! I think this is an extremely important topic to discuss in todays society. The ocean means a lot to me because it is what I grew up around in Florida. I want to keep them as healthy as possible! What I found interesting about your response is when you talk about trash ending up polluting the ocean even if that is not where we placed the trash. Its insane to think about trash just ending up in the ocean from far away. I would add some statistics on how much trash the ocean consumes each year? Over the past few years, to see the rise in the problem. I think that will get peoples emotions intrigued. The pain being caused to the animals would be most important as well. A question I might add would be, "what are the economic effects of marine litter." I agree with everything you stated in your blog post. This topic will have a lot of info for you to research.
ReplyDeleteI love this topic in general, this is such a rapidly growing issue that honestly could vey much be avoided by simply picking up after yourself or even reduced by recycling or reusing your plastics. It continues to baffle me how much trash actually gets into the ocean. I couldn't even imagine walking up to the ocean and seeing trash just lining the sand and water, it's disgusting to even think about. Great topic to write about!
